A WALL COLORED BY THE COMMUNITY

The "Sustainability and Industry" drawing contest, sponsored by Bondalti within the Estarreja community, reached the final stage: more than 110 children and adults from local schools and associations gathered for a day of socializing and art, painting their original drawings on the wall at the entrance of the Estarreja Chemical Complex.

The objective of this initiative – to to raise awareness among schools, associations and other local organizations on sustainability issues, by inviting them to illustrate the industrial landscape – was clearly fulfilled, with more than 60 drawings from nine associations/schools being submitted to the competition. The interpretation of the topics "Innovation", "Energy and Emissions", "People" and "Clients and Ethics" was so effective that, instead of the initially expected four finalists, there were six, with two winners tied up in two of the themes.

Bondalti employees were called to vote, choosing as their winner the design of the 7th year of Estarreja Secondary School, which thus received a donation of 500 euros. The first prize from the jury, composed of representatives of Bondalti, representatives of the Estarreja City Council and the local artist who gave the mural training to the participants, went to the Pardilhó School Grouping, 7th year, which received 1500 euros. The remaining finalist schools/institutions received 300 euros each.

The transposition of the paper drawings for painting on the wall took place on May 24. More than 110 participants took up the task with infectious joy and "professionalism," and in the end they just wanted to know if there would be a second edition soon.

The population of Estarreja has since visited the mural, and the reactions are very positive, with them demonstrating, in their social networks, the enthusiasm and affection for this project. The general idea is that the wall is quite large, so there are many more paintings that could fit in!

For now, the next steps include an exhibition with all the works to the contest, on a date and place to be announced shortly.

Bondalti is proud of its involvement with the community, so it could not be more satisfied with the results of this initiative. It thanks everyone for their participation and effort, and leaves a special note of recognition to the Estarreja City Council, for its commitment to the project, to Radio Voz da Ria, for the propagation, and to the artist José de Oliveira, tireless throughout all the process and in particular in supporting the entities.
