Bondalti strengthens its presence in Spain with the acquisition of the Aguas Alfaro Group
Bondalti has reached an agreement to acquire the Aguas Alfaro Group, one of the main Spanish operators in the wastewater treatment segment, strengthening its focus on business diversification and its presence in Spain.
The deal now agreed covers the entire share capital of the Aguas Alfaro Group and extends Bondalti's presence in Spain, which dates back to 2001 with Elnosa, and where it has operated an industrial plant in Torrelavega, Cantabria, since last year. The investment also consolidates Bondalti's investment in the water treatment sector, after the acquisition last September of the Portuguese company Enkrott.
The Aguas Alfaro Group, which includes the companies Aguas Rioja, Agua Energia y Medioambiente (AEMA) and Laboratorios Alfaro, began its activity in 1994, and is recognised by its trademark AEMA. Based in Alfaro, in the autonomous community of La Rioja, this group has stood out for its strategic positioning based on innovation and the development of its own technology applied to wastewater treatment, as well as consumption and industrial processes water, providing comprehensive solutions and services aimed at customers in various sectors of activity, with a special focus on industrial companies in the agri-food sector. The Aguas Alfaro Group provides solutions in the areas of engineering, construction, operation and maintenance of facilities for the treatment of process water and wastewater, Legionella control, waste and sludge treatment, chemical products supply, laboratory analyses and inspections, among others.
Water treatment solutions represent a new growth path for Bondalti, which very much complements its activity in industrial chemicals, namely the production of chlorine. This new business area also reflects a long-term commitment to an activity sector aligned with major global trends in sustainable development, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals regarding efficiency in the use, supply and access to drinking water (SDG 6).
"This is another step in the realisation of Bondalti's commitment to a growth strategy based on geographical diversification and the complementarity of business areas. Bondalti regards sustainable development in all its principles – economic, social and environmental – and therefore we welcome the Aguas Alfaro Group into Bondalti and into the José de Mello Group, certain that it will make a strong contribution to growth, underpinned by the values of innovation and competence which are indispensable in overcoming future challenges", says João de Mello, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bondalti.
